"Jane, the second daughter of Joseph Graham, died unmarried. She died a violent death some time prior to the war. It was never known whether she had died by her own hand or whether she was killed. She was missing for some time and a vigilant search was instituted, and the whole neighborhood was enlisted in the search. Her body was finally recovered, and showed evidences of a violent death. It was in a wild and unfrequented place; and whether she had gone there and died by her own hand was never known. Suspicion fastened on her kinsman and brother, James Graham, who was arrested and placed in jail. Finally the case was moved to Giles County for trial, a change of venue being had from Monroe County, where the public feeling was strong against him. He was defended by the late Senator Allen T. Caperton and other distinguished attorneys. The trial resulted in his acquittal of any crime, and the matter was not prosecuted further. This was a noted case in its day." | Jane GRAHAM

Obituary of Russell Boyd Gregg
"Russell Boyd Gregg"
"Russell Boyd Gregg, 90, who was an agricultural advisor for the Department of Agriculture, died August 25 at the Gunnison Living Community in Gunnison, Colorado.
"On October 2, 1918, Russ was born and raised on a ranch near Ord, Nebraska to the late William B. Gregg and Emma Larson Gregg. His mother passed away when he was 14 and his father when he was 17. Russ lived with his sister, Frances, until he graduated from Genoa High School, Genoa Nebraska. Then Russ made his first journey to Colorado to work at the Grand Lake Lodge, where he was a busboy and met the girl of his dreams as she was working in the dining room. After several years employed by various hotels in the Southwest, Russ married Marcia Millikin on December 11, 1942 in San Diego where he served in the Navy.
"After the war, Russ took advantage of the GI Bill to attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins; he graduated in 1950 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He, Marcia and first son Gordon moved to Lamar Colorado for a few years as a young field agent starting his career with the Department of Agriculture. In 1955, the Gregg family with young Becky in tow moved to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where Russ continued his career with the U.S. Agency for International Development. A third child, Duncan, was born as the family lived overseas in British Guiana, Nepal, Tunesia, The Gambia and Jamaica. In 1982, after two final tours of service in the Washington, D.C. area, Russ and Marcia set up their "retired" lives in the much-loved Gunnison Country to be near sister-in-law Maxine Hatcher and her husband Marty. Over the 25 plus years in the Gunnison Valley Russ was active in the Young At Heart, Meals On Wheels, SCORE, square dancing, Gunnison Four Wheelers, Pioneer Museum, the Never Sink Unitarians and the Democratic Party. After occasional trips overseas again, Russ came back with many slide presentations for several Gunnison community organizations.
"Russ enjoyed many pleasures of retirement including woodworking and overseeing the construction of the summer family cabin in Pitkin. Russ and Marcia delighted in their mountain retreat where they hosted BBQ parties for family and friends. Russ was preceded in death by his soul-mate, Marcia, in 2005, and his second son Duncan in 1983. Survivors include son Gordon of Denver; daughter Becky of Virginia; three grandchildren, Heather, Kristi, and Michael; and two great-grandchildren Madi and Ian. He is survived by sister-in-law Maxine and her husband Marty.
"The family is appreciative of the staff of the Gunnison Living Center and the Hospice and Palliative Care of the Gunnison Valley. Donations in Russ' name may be sent to Gunnison Hospice ([email protected]) or 509 West Virginia Ave, Suite 2, Gunnison CO 81230.
"A private family service will be held at a later date."
